Active Dorset is committed to establishing and embedding good safeguarding practice in sport and physical activity in Dorset.
Active Dorset has a Designated Officer in place, who regularly undergoes training with the NSPCC Child Protection in Sport Unit (CPSU).
We will work with partners to agree minimum safeguarding standards and ensure that there are protocols in place to mitigate the possibility of child abuse eg policies and procedures, reporting mechanisms, effective recruitment systems, DBS checks and ongoing safeguarding training.
We also commit to regular consultation with children and young people to hear and act on their views. Examples of this are our partnership working at the Dorset School Games and material on issues such as countering bullying. Information on this for different age groups and can be viewed in our downloads section.
If children want further advice or want to speak to someone confidentially go to our Useful Links section for suitable websites and phone numbers.
Due to fundamental differences in the safeguarding of children and adults, Active Dorset has separate policies and both policies are available to view and download. The Safeguarding Children policy has two of the sections available as separate downloads to make for easier and quicker reading depending on your needs. Codes of Conduct are also available for coaches, children and parents/carers.
Active Dorset is dedicated to working in partnership with all agencies to ensure that information and training opportunities are available for all staff and volunteers to guide them in best practice when working with children, young people and vulnerable adults.
Safeguarding courses are run regularly by a range of providers, including:
