The fast single-hander boats will be based at, and used by, the Andrew Simpson Sailing Centre to give youngsters a pathway into regular sailing through its Bart Clubs for beginners and Race Club for the more advanced.
They will also be used by a number of different organisations at events, in order to increase the number of children able to participate:
- The RYA-affiliated South West Youth Sailing Academy (SWYSA) - winter training and work with local clubs http://www.swtera.org/
- The National Schools Sailing Association (NSSA) - annual regatta https://nssa.org.uk/
- The RS Tera Class association - regional traveller series and the nationals in 2017 http://uk.rstera.org/
The use of these boats will provide extra support to the SWYSA and NSSA, which have both received grants from the ASSF in the past two years.
This important project to support young sailors in events across the south west has received a further boost from the boat suppliers, RS themselves, who have provided a six-stacker trailer for transporting the boats around the region.
In addition, the boats will be for sale at an affordable price to clubs and individuals involved in all these projects, with support from RS to make the venture sustainable and increase opportunities for youngsters to enjoy sailing throughout the year.
