Active Lives report shows Dorset mirrors national participation trends

The second Active Lives Adult Report summarising activity levels in England from May 2016 to May 2017 has revealed that 24.5% of the Dorset population are inactive, a slightly improved figure compared to the England average (25.6%).

Whilst nearly a quarter of Dorset's population were categorised as inactive (less than 30 minutes of activity a week), 14.2% were fairly active (30-149 minutes per week) and 61.3% were considered active (150 minutes+).

Consistent with the inaugural Active Lives survey, Weymouth and Portland again demonstrates the lowest number of inactive people (19.3%) and the highest number of active (69%). Four other areas in Dorset reported higher than average results for those in the Active category; Bournemouth, Poole, North Dorset, Purbeck and the aforementioned Weymouth and Portland. West Dorset (27.2% inactive) is the only Dorset-based local authority area that registers more inactive people than the national average.

Active Dorset are currently in the process of producing a guide to Dorset, to include historical participation rates, and this will be released in the coming weeks.
