Slades Pavilion Update

The replacement Pavilion building has now been fully assembled internally and has settled very well onto its newly installed footings. It is just 14 weeks since we first found the building in East London that has now been delivered at Slades. This is a huge mobilisation by Bournemouth Council and everyone involved in an extremely short time and has gone on time and to plan.

There are a few short phases of work still to do before it is opened for all of us to use.

Change of use: The building was not originally used for the same purpose as we plan for it so we are ensuring that all the building regulations, services and associated works are planned properly in order that it will function well in its new setting.

Internal fit-out: A large part of the interior of the Pavilion will be an open space accessible to all users of Slades Park and needs some new flooring and lighting, plus three public toilets and a baby change area which require interior fittings and plumbing. The office and meeting rooms have to be reconfigured, the kitchen assembled, and all internal furnishings procured.

Exterior cladding and shutters: We are treating the cladding that will return the building to its original architect designed splendour and so the external appearance you now see is not what it will look like when complete, an example is in the document below.

Landscaping: Work to ensure the facility is fully accessible and also sympathetically sits in the Park surroundingsis planned, including making sure access to and from the playground is appropriate. We also plan to remove the low walls and hedges from near the new pavilion and around the changing block B, this work should take place soon.

Thank you for all the positive comments and suggestions about the use of the Pavilion as a centre for activity within the park and please keep these coming into us: we are all very keen to see the new Pavilion 'in action' and just need to be patient a little while longer, so these very necessary work phases are completed.
