Opening School Facilities

On behalf of Sport England, Active Dorset are working with Bournemouth University to look at where school-based physical activity facilities are and are not open to the public.

As well as seeking to open up more facilities, this is also seen as a further learning exercise, to better understand the current situation, barriers, solutions and success factors.

Over the coming months, Dorset schools may be contacted by Bournemouth University students who, in consultation with Active Dorset, are researching what community use is currently available.

This will be followed by Sport England and DfE funded regional pilots in 2020/21, which will bring together schools and local providers to trial innovative new approaches to getting young people active.
